Equal Opportunities Unit at the Agricultural University of Athens

The Equal Opportunities Unit  of the Agricultural University of Athens (hereinafter referred to as the EOU) was established in July 2024 (Government Gazette 3868/03.07.2024, Issue B).

The primary mission of the EOU is to support students with disabilities and/or special educational needs in order to facilitate their smooth integration into the University community and enable them to successfully meet the academic requirements of their studies.

Furthermore, a shared objective of the entire EOU team is to raise awareness across the University community by fostering a culture of respect, solidarity, and equality, where all students have equal opportunities for participation and learning.

The EOU serves students with disabilities and/or special educational needs from all Departments of the Agricultural University of Athens (AUA), as well as members of the University’s staff who encounter accessibility barriers and limitations in the educational process.

Specifically, the Unit provides support to students with:

  • Sensory disabilities (visual impairment, deafness or hearing impairment);
  • Physical disabilities;
  • Specific learning difficulties (dyslexia, dysorthographia, dyscalculia, etc.);
  • Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) with or without Hyperactivity (ADHD);
  • Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD);
  • Chronic health conditions (such as cancer, diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, etc.);
  • Multiple disabilities.

Equal Access Committee

The University’s Equal Access Committee for Persons with Disabilities and Persons with Special Educational Needs was established pursuant to Article 220, paragraph 1, of Law 4957/2022.

The Equal Access Committee consists of nine members:

Six (6) faculty members (Teaching and Research Staff) representing different Schools of the Agricultural University of Athens, who possess relevant expertise or experience in matters concerning equal access for persons with disabilities and persons with special educational needs;

The Head of the Equal Access Unit;

The Head of the Technical Services Department;

The Head of the Center for Teaching and Learning Support;

Student representative.

The Committee is responsible for developing and implementing the University’s Equal Access Policy for persons with disabilities and persons with special educational needs. Its mission is to ensure equal access to the educational process and all academic activities for undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral students with disabilities and/or special educational needs at the Agricultural University of Athens. In addition, the Committee seeks to facilitate their timely and successful integration into the University community, support the completion of their studies, and promote their equal participation in all aspects of academic life.
